PG is almost completely odorless, with a slightly sweet taste, and has a flash point of 217°F, a boiling point of 370°F, and has an evaporation rate of 2. It is considered a non-HAP solvent and is also exempted from California Proposition 65.

PG is considered one of the most commonly used chemical in the whole manufacturing world. Applications can range from antifreeze to paints and coatings to pesticides, and can also be found in various edibles, such as coffee-based and other caffeinated beverages, liquid sweeteners, ice cream, and whipped dairy products. Other applications include pharmaceuticals, brake fluids, cosmetics, e-cigarettes, de-foaming agents, lubricants, and polyester resins.
