Propylene carbonate is an organic carbonate ester derived from propylene glycol. Propylene carbonate is a colorless to yellowish liquid with a sweetish odor. Propylene Carbonate is considered none flammable with a flashpoint of 226 F. Propylene Carbonate is very slow to evaporate with an evaporation rate of 0.5. Propylene Carbonate is also completely VOC exempted all over the US. PC has a very high boiling and flash point as well as very low toxicity.

Due to the benifit of low toxicity and the VOC exemption, Propylene Carbonate is attactive for a variety of applications, specifically paints and coatings. Other applications include cosmetics, cleaners, degreasers, urethanes, paper and pulp, foundry, textiles, and batteries.
