Benzyl Alcohol is a colorless liquid with a faint pleasant odor, and is considered a member of the aromatic alcohol family. It has limited solubility in water at 4.4% at 77°F. It a limited VOC exemption in California on a case-by-case basis depending on the application. Benzyl Alcohol is considered desirable because of its polarity, low toxicity, and low vapor pressure.

Applications
The most common application for Benzyl Alcohol is as a solvent in inks, paints, and lacquers. It also can be used as a paint stripper when mixed with viscosity enhancers. Other applications include cosmetics, various creams, flavors, fragrances, and soaps.
