- CAS #: 13463-67-7
- EINECS #: 236-675-5
- Synonyms: TiO2
Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is a white powder that has a medium particle size. Tio2 is insoluble in water and typically undergoes a Hydrophilic Organic Treatment. It is mined from three different minerals. They are Rutile, Anatase, and Brookite. There are also two different production processes, chloride, and sulfate. Typically, the chloride process is more desirable due to the fact that it produces a high-quality ore with better brightness. This is commonly referred blue TiO2 because of the blue undertones. The sulfate process is much cheaper and produces more of a dull TiO2 product. This is typically referred to as yellow TiO2 from the yellow undertones as well. Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is one of the most commonly used pigments in the world. TiO2 is used in almost all plastic production.
- Not regulated by DOT
Most plastic that is white contains Titanium Dioxide. Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is also a major component in the production of white and reflective coatings, particularly in the roof coatings industry. Roof Coatings have requirements for reflectivity and TiO2 makes this possible. Other applications include cast film, injection molding, cosmetics/personal care, and foundry molds.
