N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone is a liquid, mostly colorless and an organic compound. It is commonly used as a solvent in the petrochemical industry, as well as the plastics industry.
While NMP has a wide use in different industries, in our everyday life it is used to strip paint. This is also a chemical used in the battery industry, preparing and leaning the electrodes.
When absorbed by the body, either by skin, beathing, or swallowing, the body generally expulses it very quickly and efficiently. As a result there is a very low probability of side effects such as skin or eye irritation.
Due to it’s many common uses in industry and pharmaceutical, there have been many experients on rats and rabbits, for example, to determine the health issues. While some effects have been found in the animals, humans who work regularly with NMP have not suffered the same effects.
