Lucite Declares Force Majeure On MMA

In Blog, News by Author

In an announcement just released, it is being reported that Lucite declares force majeure on MMA. In a previous announcement, it was noted that extreme winter weather and tight raw material supply was causing interruptions at Lucite’s Memphis facility. Now, after suffering some unforeseen mechanical failures, the Memphis facility is being shut down for critical repairs. Therefore, in a statement published yesterday, Lucite representative states that, “due to circumstances beyond its control, Lucite will be declaring force majeure on MMA,” effective January 23, 2017.

This will certainly cause significant ramifications for the chemical industry for the foreseeable future.

“The further unplanned outage has depleted Lucite’s remaining MMA inventory. Once the plan is able to resume production, we will be allocating our available supply of MMA on a fair and reasonable basis and in compliance with applicable contract terms.”
